Types of hair loss

The following are the most common forms of hair loss :

Androgenetic-Alopecia
Androgenetic alopecia is attributed to the effects of androgen on hair follicles that have genetically inherited from the parents. There is loss of very thin hair and and as time progresses, hair replacement becomes slower and slower, hence resulting in bald areas. Hair loss is always symmetrical.

Androgenetic alopecia affects both men and women but the pattern of balding differs. Male-pattern baldness starts from puberty onwards and by age 30 about 25% of men begin to bald.

Alopecia-areata
Alopecia areata is generally considered an autoimmune disease. It affects both men and women and is usually temporary. The specific cause of this condition is not known but in about a quarter of all cases a family history of alopecia is present.

Round bald patches can be seen on the scalp, usually more noticeable on one side of the head than the other. However, the severity varies from individual to individual. These bald patches progress over several weeks.
